Back by their own popular demand

We done another one!!!!!!

Kirsten and I recorded another podcast yesterday. S’not as upbeat as the last one, but it does promise to be marginally humourous. It was not introductory so we basically just read and ridiculed the Sun. S’alot to edit and trying to make it louder but not too loud. It’ll be up by the weekend at least. Maybe tomorrow. I’ll keep you posted on twitter.

Peace, John xx

THE DIFFICULT SECOND PODCAST

September 11, 2009 by whatthepodcast

Kirsten and I have decided to make a new, all singing all dancing podcast. I’ve proposed that we do our own commentaries for rubbish films which I can promise just now WOULD and SHALL be hilarious.

But Kirsten thinks nobody will listen to it and suggest we record a whole commentary but edit it to a half hour best bits sort of affair. I believe it’d be out of context and defeats the purpose of someone listening to it along with the film. People can rent DVDs and listen to our commentaries. You don’t have to own them. I propose our first film to be the first FINAL DESTINATION film in the saga. It’s so ridiculous that it’s a prime candidate for a couple of self indulgent pretentious cats like us to take the piss out of it.

Apologies. My grammar hasn’t been the best in this post. I’m quite hungover.

Let us know what you think please. (Not your views on my alcoholism)  Give us a reply on twitter or something, @johnaggasild & @kirstenin

——

Just to make it clear, I do really like the idea of doing commentaries for films, but I (it’s Kirsten now, by the way) would mainly like to do it ’cos I know it’d make me and John laugh. However, I have a few worries. For example, just because we’d have a laugh doing it doesn’t necessarily mean that anyone else would want to listen to it. It just seems grossly self-indulgent. Even for us! God knows, if some random twerps off the internets said to me, ”Download and listen to this thing I made. It is really funny, but it’s two hours long” Even if it was funny, I’d probably not bother due to the length. It’s a very long time to sit listening to gibbering. It’s also a very long time to be consistently funny, which is what you’d want from such a thing if it’s eating away at your hours and of course, there’d be moments that aren’t very entertaining and could be considered dull.

Also, not everyone is fortunate enough to own this thrilling piece of cinematic genius and I don’t know anybody who would be willing to shell out on it or a rental just in order to hear two people talk about it in a flippant manner. We’re asking a favour by getting people to listen in the first place, so why should they spend money on a shit film just to gain a little bit of context?

My proposal was, yes, we should do this, purely to entertain ourselves, if anything. I also said that we should put the full thing up on this blog for anyone who would have the time/will to listen, but it shouldn’t be the only thing we offer or else nobody’ll bother. If we were to do a normal podcast too and have a part in it where we’d say “Oh, we watched Final Destination again the other day and recorded some of our thoughts [then set the scene and cut to bits of commentary.] Here are those thoughts…” or something similar, that could be just as good, plus it’d mean you, THE PEOPLE, don’t have to endure the mundane bits that would inevitably occur over such a timescale.
Whilst on the phone to John, I brought up Adam and Joe. On their 6Music (and back when they were on XFM) show, I feel they’re at their best when summarising things they’ve seen. For example, when taking ten minutes to merely describe the first scene of Skins series three, it’s hilarious. It’s well thought out and the fact that they have to set the scene themself allows them to be even more creative and even exaggerate a bit. Same goes for their top-notch description of R.Kelly’s hip-hopera, Trapped In The Closet.
I just feel that a podcast of half an hour to 45 minutes is enough. Especially as the main criticism of Podcast Numero Uno (aside from the terrible sound quality) was that it was too long and we knew this even as we were recording it.

So, in summary: Would you, THE PEOPLE, rather hear an audio commentary from me and John being all charming and devil-may-care as per usual or listen to a normal podcast with clips from the audio commentary and then have the choice of downloading the full thing if you enjoyed the extracts?

Please let us know, we’ve not got much going on at the moment and it’d fill our little hearts with joy to know there’s some sort of opinion on this. Like John says, message us on Twitter or if you have more than 140 characters on the subject (if so, you are a strange and beautiful creature) email thewhatcast@gmail.com or leave a comment on this here blog. You do need to put in an email address in order to leave a comment, but WordPress won’t email you and the address itself will remain hidden.

Thank you, I love each and every one of you on the mouth.

(I’ll also leave you with the aforementioned Adam and Joe clips just because you’ve all been such good girls and boys for listening intently… They’re really very very very funny and if we ever produce something even half as good as this one day, I will die happy.)

Friends and lovers,

Please forgive the horrendous sound-quality (really, really bad… I know I’m not selling this very well, but I’m not gonna lie, it’s irritating) and sort of… clunkiness of our “pilot episode”.
Please bear with us, ‘cos, to nearly-but-not-quite quote Hemingway, “The first episode of anything is shit.” Remember the first episode of Two Pints? That was CRAP and look what it blossomed into! Oh… wait, no… Uh… Frasier? Yeah, let’s stick with Frasier…

In the words of D:Ream “Things can only get better.” and this can get better, but especially with your help. Email us at thewhatcast[at]gmail[.]com with anything you like. Topics of conversation, stories, rants, complaints about our naivety, etc.
Feedback is very much appreciated.
C’mon then, here we go – Two Apes And A Microphone [Take One]: http://www.clickcaster.com/items/podcast-pilot

All the love,

A word from the cohort

June 4, 2009 by whatthepodcast

Hello. I am currently editing this Podcast on Audacity whilst re watching “Transformers”. When I saw it in the cinema I was trying to make my then girlfriend think I wasn’t that much of a geek and said I didn’t thik it was ‘all that’. All the while forgetting the little boy in nursery who used to transform as opposed to walk around. The moral of the story is, don’t let anyone prevent you from enjoying something, unless the anyone is the police and the something is murder or rape. I also intend to review ‘Vicky Cristina Barcelona’ in the next podcast which is coming out on DVD soon. I’ll try and post the actual podcast on here so I hope you enjoy it muchly muchly.

Big Love,

 John [kisses]

Come on, come on, the club is open…

Hello you.

We recorded our first podcast today. A pilot, perhaps.
We’re getting to grips with the “equipment”, so the sound isn’t the best in the world. Also, we sort of lost our way in the last ten minutes, but please bear with us, this is just a test, really.

It will be with you shortly…

All the love,

Kirsten
